Hi
Since installing Windows 8 to my laptop, I can no longer display to my Samsung USB hub monitor. I see other people have had this problem but I can't find the answer.

When I try to duplicate or extend, the hub says 'Connecting to PC...' but then nothing happens. Something is working as my mouse and keyboard are plugged into the hub and they work. I just cant get the display.

Any help welcome. I've spent way too many hours trying to find a fix. I think all my drivers are up to date.

Thanks.

What exactly is a hub monitor? A google search has too many varied items.

Whats the model number?

Hey
Thanks for replying. It's a Samsung SyncMaster CA550 (Central Station). It's for using with notebooks ie it has several USB ports so you can plug devices into it rather than the PC.

Does it work standalone as a single monitor?

Im not sure if you can do both the screen and the HDMI at the same time, Im still looking..

Are you trying to connect the samsung via the HDMI?

In the meantime can you switch the output to the samsung monitor with the [FN] key and the monitor symbol on your function keys?

Ok, so first I must warn you that I'm not technical!

The FN key just shows my laptop.
I'm connecting via USB (there is HDMI so I could buy a cable and try that).

It worked perfectly fine until I installed Windows 8.
I can see it as a device from my laptop. The mouse and keyboard work through it. And when I extend my screen the cursor disappears as if it's gone across to the second screen but there's just a black screen on the monitor.

Thanks for your help...

If it worked before and not now with only the OS being changed then its the video driver to your USB, you may resolve this easily with an HDMI cable, does the monitor support HDMI? If not there are HDMI to VGA/DVI adapters..

Whats the model of the USB to VGA adapter? Ill see if I can fing win8 drivers for it..

Yes, I have an HDMI cable now. I'm not in my office today but will try it as soon as I get back. Awesome if that fixes it.
What do you mean by 'USB to VGA adapter'? The USB cable? Sorry

I'm downloading some drivers from the Acer website. Not sure of they're the right ones.

Thanks for your help. Really appreciate it. Hope you're enjoying the new series of Dr Who!

OMG, I just read all the specs on your monitor, I apologize for not noticing that the video signal is sent wirelessly.

This is a truly wicked monitor!!

Ive never heard of this.

Now that ive read all the specs ( which was hard to find oddly enough, its like a big secret )

Do you have the wireless dongle installed on your laptop?

This is how the video is sent..

Youll have to check your device manager to se if its recognized.

Do youn have the installation driver cd? If not you will probably need to download it, but try without first.

You probably do not have the drivers installed since this is a new monitor system..

You have to re-setup your windows to know what the monitor is, it probably has no clue of what you connected to it.

The setup is involved and rather that typing it in plain text, Ill give you the link to the installation manual of the 650 model since the 550 model was unavailable..

Good luck.. Let us know how its goingh..

Hey
Not sure my monitor is the one you've seen - or maybe I just don't know it! Anyway, I've never used it wirelessly. BUT the good news is that the HDMI cable works and I'm sending you this from my beautiful big monitor.

Thanks so much. I've spent hours trying to get this thing to work. I'm glad you were out there.
