USB 3.0 Powered Hub issue.

I have a USB 3.0 Powered Hub (from ac adapter), it was working fine for about a year, now its doing the old disconnecting/reconnecting thing, quite often.
I have checked all the cables, they are fully inserted, hub is being powered properly. Tried different USB 3.0 port on rear of desktop pc, still same problem remains.
Just started happening a week or so ago, before that (almost a year) no issues.

Just generally firing this out there incase this is a common Win8/Pc bug with any quick workarounds.

What are you connecting to it?

does it draw allot of power?

Does it do the same when you plug in a flashdrive

Does it do it when you plug directly to the port?

6/7 things are plugged in, but only 1 is active all the time. The one that is active is a usb cable going to a DAC which then is a 3.5mm stereo Jack going to a 2.1 set of speakers. The other items connected (but not switched on) are things like usb cables for phones, mp3 players and BT modules.

I'm pretty sure its Win 8 and not hub as the rear USB 3.0 ports are both a bit flakey at times. I've had other equipment do this other than the hub. What's curious is this is my second mb and both times (different makes) have had usb3.0 rear issues.

There wasn't even a driver for usb 3.0 for my mb when win 8 was released, despite it saying it was win 8 ready... I haven't checked there in awhile, maybe there is a new update.. will check now.

Also did i forget to mention i don't get usb 3.0 speeds, more like 20-30mb/s transfer speeds etc

Without the hub, how many usb 3 ports do you have, and they are all blue, correct?

That motherboard provides 2 usb 3.0, both situated on the rear.
Yesterday I pulled out the USB cable that was in the Hub and that was continually 'on'. This was the usb cable running to the DAC, instead i plugged it directly into a front usb2.0 port that was free. Since doing that I have had no connect/disconnect noises, so the DAC/USB cable seems to be fine. The dock is now still connected but nothing actually turned on (remember all that is connected are usb bluetooth modules and cables for charging/connecting phones and mp3 players etc.
I would like to use the hub more but my prior experience has led me to believe its just flakey, or rather the rear usb3.0 ports are flakey to whatever connects there (be in an external hdd dock instead of hub, and yes the ports are blue).

I'm pretty sure the hub is fine and the motherboard usb 3.0 ports are the problem, I don't even get proper usb3.0 speeds, not even close, and they are flakey. It might be my imagination but i think the problem is worse if I use both usb3.0 ports same time (so like one port is connected to hub, the other a external hdd dock station for example).

I thought i read a long time ago somewhere that win 8 and usb3.0 wasn't great, in that the drivers for usb3.0 you couldn't count on like from the mb manufacturing website, that win 8 'should' provide usb3.0 drivers, but my experience (with two mb running win 8) is that neither have performed adequately.

But i cannot pinpoint this to being just win 8 issue as i never had xp or win 7 running under either of the mb's i had.

It's winter here but this morning i put the ceiling fans on to try push sum heat from the ceiling down to the floor again. Guess what? The act of turning the ceiling fan on disconnected the usb device from pc, and i was able to replicate this again and again lol.
Could it be that this 1950's home was never intended to power all the gadgets i have and time i need to upgrade the electrics?

Yes... it could be a voltage drop, or line noise..

An inexpensive UPS/battery backup will alleviate both issues, and prevent system damage or data loss from glitches and surges...

If you have a UPS already on your system then its possible that your computer's power supply is insufficient or going bad..

I do happen to have a UPS, power supply got tested recently when i had mb issues and came back fine..

Its crazy that turning on your ceiling fan causes USB failure, especially when on a UPS with line filtering and stabilization...

Dr. Banner, you have me stumped.... Does your UPS have a digital voltage readout? If it does watch the voltage when you first turn on the fan see how low it goes..

Orrrrrrr, run your computer on the UPS only, unplug it from the wall, and turn on the ceiling fan and see if it goes out then...

No digital read out, but i will unplug the ups from mains and try ceiling fan, see what happens. I also think there is a clicking noise heard on the tv when i switch the same ceiling fan on/off so sumthings going on there.
It is weird. I haven't had as much issue since no longer using the usb hub as much, instead (as i stated earlier) the usb>DAC>2.1 stereo is now plugged directly into pc and not hub (it's this speaker that cuts out/disconnects when ceiling fan is used).
It feels like a power issue affecting the hub in that although ac connected perhaps its not pulling enough power.

EDIT: This morning i tried to replicate the usb ceiling fan issue, wasn't doing it, was just doing it that morning only.
