My acer Aspire 5738Z has a web cam called a crystal eye. when I downloaded windows 8 saw that it had a simple to use camera app. No matter how I try I cannot get it to work. I have tried every driver I can find even the ones on the Acer support page. I still get the response "camera not found" In fact this is a true statement because I
can't find where the camera is stored on my system. Any advice welcome. I never tried the camera until I changed to windows 8 so I am not sure if it ever worked.

Nice little program Jimbo. It is telling me I have no capture hardware,so I must assume there is a hardware fault is that correct?

Hi there
The web cam is often either a USB device (integrated) or under Imaging devices. just see if your device manager can find it.

If there is a question mark against the device it means the correct driver is not installed -- try with Windows update

Here's the device from my laptop.

The program will work with almost ANY webcam I've ever seen provided the computer knows there's one in the system --could be yours is defective.

Cheers
jimbo

Jimbo, you know how long I've been looking for this? Thanks a lot.

SRF, you have to choose the device from the menu up top, click on it to activate it. Anso do what Jimbo showed in his image- If it is not there, it means you have to install the driver for it first. Check the maker's website for the driver for it, not the program, the driver.

Ive had several Acers and they are not forthcoming with the driver for that, did you say Acer?

Recently lost my Windows 8 on my main PC, had to go back to Windows 7.
I've got a little Cyberlink program that works well to kick start just about every cam I've tried it on, I'll upload it and post it. Its an old program but still works, you have to install some Visual basic things. OK it's on it's way up.

Ok here it is, it's the free version so I hope there is no problem with me sharing it. One thing about the AmCap program, it has a timebomb, shuts it off every so often unless Jimbo's doesn't have that?

It's about 73mb, just un-rar it then run the exe. If it says you need a component, it will say, just download it from MS.

Recently lost my Windows 8 on my main PC, had to go back to Windows 7.
Still no luck, I don't have a camera listed under imaging devices in device manager. Under USB devices I have a sonix st50220 usb video camera listed.
Is this it I have checked and the driver appears to be up to date. I tried You Cam application still says no camera found.
