Solved HTML5 YouTube in IE10 (Modern) - cannot exit full screen

On my Dell Latitude 10, when viewing HTML5 YouTube videos in full screen on IE10 in Modern mode, I can't bring up the playback or screen size controls. Tapping the screen shows the title of the video and the share and info icons, but nothing else. I can pinch to zoom the video, and can drag it around a little and see the actual page for the video underneath, but I haven't found a way to actually close full screen mode. When I switch to the Flash version of YouTube everything works as expected, i.e. tapping the screen brings up the controls at the bottom of the video.

A co-worker has a Surface Pro, but I haven't seen how YouTube behaves on that yet to see if it's a problem specific to the Latitude.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

How about pressing on "ESC" key.

I wish it were that easy. Since it's a tablet, there's no physical keyboard. Also, the only way to invoke the onscreen keyboard in the Modern UI is to tap on a text entry field. I can do that by swiping upwards to get the URL field, but pressing esc on the keyboard that appears there only closes the keyboard.

Strangely enough, when viewing YouTube full screen in protrait mode, the video controls do appear, and I can scrub the video and enter and exit full screen mode no problem. In landscape mode, it's like the controls are cropped. The position in the video is barely visible at the bottom of the screen, but tapping the screen does not make the controls appear.

Viewing YouTube in desktop mode with HTML5, the video can overlap the video controls depending on the size of the video. In Flash mode, the videos scale properly.

On a Dell Latitude E6400 laptop in Modern UI, the video controls are not cropped and are fully accessible. This tells me it might be a video driver bug. I'll check in on the Dell forums to see if anyone else has the same problem.

Correction: this is actually not the case - the video controls can be hidden under the video just as on the tablet. So the problem must be HTML5-related. That must be one reason why HTML5 support is still in trial mode.

The problem isn't technically solved, but I'm marking it as such since there's a viable workaround.

IE 10 isn't a supported browser for the YouTube HTML5 beta. There is a note before signing up to the beta.

"Fullscreen support is partially implemented. Pressing the fullscreen button will expand the player to fill your browser. If your browser supports a fullscreen option, you can then use that to truly fill the screen" Maybe once it's out of beta it might work better.
