Hard drive isnt allowed to change the correct drive letter

I'm booting off my SSD which is drive C:\ and I have games and programs on an extra hard drive which was origanally drive H:\ but after a restart it switched to I:\ and when I go into Disk Management to change it Drive H:\ isn't there.

    Hi KiityCancer,

What you say makes perfect sense. So, if a restart changed the drive letter to I, then H won't be there. Why not just leave it at I or is there more to this story...

    64-bit Windows 10

Hello KittyCancer, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Unless you have something that runs from or saves to that drive that requires to keep it's original H: drive letter, then I wouldn't worry about it since it'll be fine using I: instead.

If you do need to change it back to H:, then you could use OPTION THREE in the tutorial below to change it back. If it has an entry for H already, then change it to some other letter to free it up to change I to H.

A drive letter being absent from the list of available drive letters usually means it in use by another device.
