    Windows 8 Mouse Lag

On a new custom built desktop, running Windows 8, I am having the annoying problem with the mouse lagging or sticking on the screen. It can do this differently at times, depending on what program I am in. For instance, on the desktop a few moments ago, just running the mouse pointer back and forth slowly across the screen, it would tend to stick for a couple of seconds when in line with the icons that are on the right side of the screen. As if there was an imaginary line stopping it. In Internet Explorer, it did not want to go to the upper right area where the favorites and home icons are. But at times, the mouse is perfect.

I've upgraded my video card drivers right from the manufacturer's website. It as if something runs in the background intermittently and hangs the mouse for a second or two.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Interesting update to my own post. I am finding that there is no mouse lag if I load programs from the Metro START screen. I don't know why this should be. For the past two evenings I did not go to the desktop to load my programs as I usually do. I began at the START screen and loaded the same programs I always use, and voila, no mouse lag.
    Any ideas on this?

I can't answer why that is happening but I do know that sometimes coincidences can really confuse things. With that said, I would repeat those tests using a "wired" mouse and see if you get the same results.

I think I got it. The mouse originally was 5' away from the USB plug in wireless transmitter. I put the mouse on the left side of my keyboard which made it 3' away and ran the cursor around on the screen for a while with no lag or sticking. That seemed to stop the problem. I bought a USB extension cable and now have the wireless transmitter extended over to within a foot of the mouse/keyboard. That looks like it solved the problem. Using the mouse/keyboard a while now and no lag. Oh happy day!

Old Thread - sorry - but I'm having the same trouble. My physical layout is a little strange and I think that may have something to do with the problem. My laptop sits atop a hutch and I use a wireless mouse and keyboard and an external monitor much of the time. The RF receiver is about 18" above the mouse. Occasionally, the mouse just flakes out and becomes unresponsive.

My solution is to connect the wireless receiver to an USB ext. cord and place it on a level field with the mouse. So far, so good.
