hey guys , i bought a Dell Inspiron 14R SE @ 7420 from Dell couple of months ago.before this it W7HP.
Recently, i've upgraded it to windows 8, and everything's fine except for this, Intel® USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Drive.
i was asked to uninstall the driver before upgrading it to windows 8 as it said not compatible with windows 8, and i did.
the problem is , i only got a transfer rate of ave. 30Mb/s on a USB 3.0 device. i went through intel site and it said i've to uninstall , but i already did it.
when i opened the Device Manager , under universal serial bus , Intel® USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Drive is there.so should i uninstall it or not ?
and if i uninstall it and anything goes wrong, how do i uninstall it back ? pleaseee help me~~~

You can download the driver from intel.
Make sure you download the latest one, if it wasn't compatible try install it on compatibility mode.

I had a similar problem with my USB 3 on my Dell. It was running in USB 2, at about 30MB/s. Windows 8 will install the driver you need. Uninstall the Intel drivers. In Device manager under View check show hidden devices. Under Universal Serial Buss Controllers, uninstall all the grayed out ones. Reboot and windows will install the correct drivers.

I uninstalled all of the grayed out ones and that fixed mine. When you reboot Windows will put in the right ones.

A semi-random suggestion:

Download and install the Intel Chipset drivers from the Dell support site.

If you really want to go wild, extract them (7Zip, for example) and run the installer with the "-overall" switch.

Give driveragent web site a look, the intel site said there were no new drivers for my 4 year old motherboard chipset but when I ran driveragent it found drivers that were intel and 2 years newer

I did a fresh format and install of Windows 8 64 Bit Pro. Sorry but I couldn't live without a start button so I have installed the Start8 start menu which is great. I try sometimes not to use it but find metro frustrating to find programs as I have many. I will use Metro for apps only and desktop of serious computing.
That's what I did shazneo. Uninstalled all the grayed out ones and rebooted.

Intel have said there will be no USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver from them, and that its down to MS to provide one.
There is another thread on here with the solution. There are hacked Windows 7 drivers and instructions on how to install them. It works perfectly.
