    Windows 8 and Apple iphones

OK, occasionally Microsoft and Apple have been known to have their, um..."differences?..." but Windows 7 did manage to communicate with my iPhone 4S quite well. I am now trying a pretty simple task in Windows 8, copying a jpeg from the "camera roll" on my iPhone to a W8 desktop folder.

All looks fine, when connected via USB the phone is recognized as a "Portable Device" in File Explorer, I can drill down to the folder with all my images, and preview and/or select any of them with no problem. From there, whenever I attempt to copy an image to my desktop the screen flashes black and then opens "back" to my desktop and File Explorer has closed.

Have any of you had better luck?

(I have not yet installed any Apple Software but this shouldn't really be necessary, should it?)

I have a iPhone as well and use it with my Windows 8 occasionally, but only through iTunes. Try doing it through there.

Well, I'm sure I could get it to "work" were I to install iTunes...I'm just curious as to which part of Windows 8 is not yet functioning like Windows 7 does (I just booted into Windows 7 and had no trouble copying pictures from my iPhone to the desktop using file manager, not iTunes...)

I had the same problem, but with an iPhone 3GS. When my AT&T contract was up on 11/9/2012, I got the Nokia Lumia 920 and it integrates very well with Win7 and Win8, as you would expect it to... I couldn't get the iPhone to work with Windows Explorer and had to suffer through iTunes. I was so happy to delete iTunes from every PC in our house!!!

Yes, I have to admit that iTunes is right up there with RealPlayer and Adobe Reader as obnoxiously intrusive and presumptuous software goes...

Apple's OS X or Windows 8
I have been using Windows 7 quite happily but I am going to buy a new laptop. I went into my local store thinking I would buy one with Windows 8 but was convinced by an assistant trained by Apple who used to use Windows 7 that OS X was definitely the way to go. He showed me round OS X and I had a...
