My printer won't work at all on Windows 8 :( I get the following message:

The print driver is not compatible with a policy enabled on your computer that blocks NT 4.0 drivers

Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks Anne

I have the same problem with Canon Pixima IP4500. Recently I have installed Windows 8 and Microsoft office 2013. I can't found the printer in the printing area of micorsoft office any more. In the control panel, under view devices and printers I can see the Inkjet printer icon, but I can not choose this as main printer. Anyway, I can not print anything.
A friend of mine has also a Canon and have the same problem. Canon support site and downloads doesn't help. We have both try to install windows 7 driver, but that does not help.
Can any one help us?

Which driver did you try?
Is your Windows 8 32-bit, or 64-bit?

As brummyfan suggests, pick a different driver. A Windows 7 driver would be the closest match, at the same bit width (32/64).

I would try to completely uninstall the driver, and check this page for a download to see if it works. The page claims Windows 8 compatibility:
PIXMA iP4500

Thanks for your comment. I have tried this way before. I delete the printer driver and installed the Canon download. After installation and after opening the My canon printer program, I can only use the printer diagnose & repare button and when i press that button i get an error. So If you have another solution I will appreciate that.

In order to get much further, I'd need to know exactly what steps you take, and resulting messages/screens you get, from the time you have no driver installed to the time you have the error. The only thing I can think of, assuming that the link does indeed point to a good driver (which the site claims), is that there's possibly some point in the process that isn't correct. For example, I know with HP printers, they insist (for good reason) that you leave the USB to the printer UNPLUGGED from the PC until you run their program and they ask you to plug it in. Otherwise, Windows will take actions on the identification of the USB device that are not desirable. I'd check for something like that. Make sure you follow Canon's install directions very specifically. I know you probably did that already, but it's all I can think of at the moment.
