Touch Malfunction Moves only Mouse Pointer

I'm not sure which category this falls under, but here's the problem: I just got this Windows 8 computer 2 weeks ago. After one week, whenever I touch the screen, the mouse pointer jumps to the place I touch. I cannot utilize the touch features. The pointer just moves around. I am very frustrated. Sometiumes, if I reboot, it goes back to normal, but the problem happens now around 60% of the time.

first, what computer model do you have?

did you calibrate the touch feature in the control panel? if you did, this may have messed up the touch feature. try resetting it back to default and see if that fixes things. if it doesn't, then try the calibration.
