For sure. It's not like XP to Vista.

Hmm... According to the rumor, the new UI will take 128MB of video RAM... taking that into considertaion

The following are3 purely made FOR FUN
    On my main retail editions

    Minimum : (x86 only)
    Intel P4/AMD Athlon 1.5 GHz
    2 GB of RAM
    20 GB of HDD space
256 MB of dedicated Video Ram with DirectX 10 compliant card

    Minimum : (x64)
    AMD Athlonx64/Intel Core 2 Duo 1.5 GHz
    2 GB of RAM
    25 GB of HDD space
256 MB of dedicated Video Ram with DirectX 10 compliant card

    Recommanded (x64)
    Intel Core 2 Duo or Athlon x64 @ 1.7GHz
    3GB of DDR2 RAM
    [...]

I think most laptop and desktops must have this kind of configuration by now.

The specs on my machine aren't too bad really although it did originally come with Vista, hubby's came with Windows 7 and he's got a 64 bit machine where mine is 32 bit.

I'm going to have to buy a new computer if I plan on getting a copy of Windows 8 if the requirement speculations are true.
(Refer to my System Specs to see what I mean).

MS'll have a hard time gettings folks to switch to 8 if they jack up hardware requirements. People are just getting used to 7 and many are on XP.

Funny thing is everyone complained XP's requirements were too high when the specs for it were released.

Yes, but for older versions! SP3 has support until 2014.

''Important notice for users of Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2): The support for your product ended July 13, 2010! To ensure that you will receive all important security updates for Windows you need to upgrade to Windows XP with Service Pack 3 (SP3) or later versions such as Windows 7.''

I highly doubt Microsoft would make the specs higher for Windows 8 (128MB graphics was previously required from Windows Vista and the current OS Windows 7) So thats no difference.
