Mouse/trackball wheel resetting

I installed Win8 on a separate drive to give it a test run and to see what it is all about.
So far I'm still undecided and neutral about it.
There is one problem I can't find a solution for.

When I boot into Win8, the scroll wheel on my MS trackball scrolls 20 lines for each click, that is too much.
So I enter the settings and adjust it to 10 lines per click, apply it and all is good until the next reboot.
It seems to revert back to 20 lines per click every time I reboot.
Any ideas?

Thanks

Something in addition has shown up. I now have devices (printer, mouse) show up twice or even three times in control panel/hardware and devices.
should I just chose any of the multiple listings and remove them, or is it going to screw up the device?

Where did you obtain your Windows 8 install media from? Sounds like a corrupted install?

I downloaded it from MS and burned the iso file onto a brand new HD
everything went smooth and no problems with drivers etc.
I have not encountered any other problems, but still need to reset the mouse wheel after every reboot.

That would really get on my nerves having to set it back on every reboot. On my last install Control Panel would always open in Category View. I wanted ICON view. I even did a reg edit and it didn't work. If I closed it and opened it again it switched back to Category View. It only did that on that one PC and I have no idea why? One option is to go to Device Manager and delete/uninstall the mouse, then reboot and let Windows install it again. You could do that for your other multiple device listings too. Delete all but one or all of them and let Windows install the drivers for that device again. One thing that can happen is if you plug a device into a different USB port, move it from one port to another, Windows will think its a new device. You'll get super duper dongle no.2, etc.
Other options are.

I have the same problem with a Microsoft mouse 5000. This is a cordles mouse. I'm runing Win 8 prof. On each rebot I have to reset the mouse as I am left handed and your right click is my click. There is no "apply buton" to make that the default position.
So far no solution has shown itself no mater what I have tried.
