Solved Windows 8 Crashes when removing a USB Drive/Disk.

Ok when i plug in a USB Drive to Windows 8 Build 9200 (Final) everything is fine. When i remove it the PC Crashes immediately. How to fix that?

Are you using the remove hardware safely option on the notification bar on desktop ?

Yes i do. Nothing happends while it is still plugged in. But when i remove it then it crashes. It says: Your Computer Ran Into a Problem. INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE. And no im not using Windows to Go. And Welcome to eight forums is funny though since im a long member of Sevenforums

i tried it. didnt work. told me he cant "FIX" what ever it is. any other solution?

I've noticed a lot of driver problems on the forum with 8. What device driver is it? Generic or specific for drive? Does the driver look ok in Device Manager? Perhaps use option to look for updated driver?

No no its generally every Save Device. Not a USB Stick from Mouse or Keyboard. But Save Storage Devices causes the crashes.

Any Solution? Oh and i allready did system file check. Let me guess now you are going to say: Deinstall Windows 8 and Reinstall it on your HDD.

Is there an other option than that?

This is getting beyond me. Not that savvy. I'm beginning to think this is a BIOS to Kernel problem, although why would it work when plugged in and crash when unplugged?!! Especially with using the unplug hardware safely option? I must say that I don't use it. I turn on and off my external drive at will with no problems. Same with my phone.

Have you searched MS site or inet on the subject?

Can anyone help?

Few things to check first...

Is your BIOS up to date? (check with your motherboard or PC manufacturers downloads section)
Are your Chipset drivers up to date? (same guys as before, but specifically you want drivers rather than a BIOS update)

After you have run through both of those, and verified in your Device Manager that you have no yellow marks on any devices, then run through the guide I posted last time wherein you basically flush all of your existing USB cached config (which may help)

Couldn be driver problem. Got all drivers up to date. Updating all drivers every time they are updatet. Maybe i will try BIOS update. But i dont know where to download the BIOS update. Cant find it at the manufactures webpage.

Did you run through MisterApathy's guide? This will flush the cache. Are you plugging peripherals into same ports?

By any chance has anyone figured this bug out yet? I've been suffering the same problem, and it's driving me bonkers.

In my case, it began (I assume) because Win8 thought I was running a Windows-to-Go installation, which it apparently does sometimes when you happen to do a USB-based install. When removing a thumb drive the system would immediately go haywire, shut down, and give me a popup nastygram after booting back up telling me not to remove the drive carrying the OS! Anyway, found out about the registry entry that tells it you're not WtG, and thought that had fixed things (it did fix several related problems), but the only difference now is that it takes a few seconds longer for it to fritz out and shut down, and I don't get the message on the reboot.

I'm constantly moving files around via thumb drive, so I'm desperate to solve this. I did begin following the instructions linked above, but discovered I didn't have any hidden entries, USB or otherwise, so gave up on that avenue.

All drivers are installed properly and accounted for save one, and that one's just an unused card reader that I'm not overly worried about (I don't think I've ever used it), which Windows 8 won't let me install the driver for (the "have disk" option appears to just be gone, --I do have the driver--, and letting Windows search by itself results in "sorry, can't find anything"). I doubt it's connected to the problem, but on the slim chance it is, there ya go.

Anyhow, I'm a wit's end, so any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated, and if the OP found a solution, please do post what you found.

I have exactly the same problem. When I'm ready to remove my USB flash drive, I select "safely remove hardware", eject the media, and then I wait for the confirmation message "Safe to Remove Hardware".

As soon as I remove the USB drive, my PC freezes. I've done this a billion times on the same machine running Windows 7, it's never happened before. But since I installed Win8, it happens every single time.

Sometimes, after about a minute after freezing, Windows 8 says something about encountering a problem. When I restart the machine, it comes up with the same message each time:
It's doing this with two different USB flash drives. They have one thing in common though: I've formatted both drives using Windows 8. I formatted using the normal settings that I've been using since Windows XP (Default Allocation Size, FAT32, etc). I've never had a problem until now.

I think the problem may be that the drives were formatted using Windows 8. Unfortunately I don't have a third USB drive to test this theory......

I have had windows 8.1 crash with a blue screen of death; then auto re-booting during important things for me. It is giving messages on both seperate new computers (both i7 with high ram and top spces ([such as 3D] ..and one is GTX 780). It has happened so many times "BAD_POOL_CALLER" is a common one.
On the laptop it crashes for no reason when writing on Disqus (news) a lot. On the Desktop it crashes often if I so something simple like `remove a USB memory stick` or unplug a Bluetooth plug-in or it just does it sometimes. It has a platimum power supply so it should all work fine and has top quality Asustek parts.... DAMN MICROCR@P

My guess is that Windows was installed using USB image and BIOS was left set to BOOT from USB. Check in BIOS which is the First Boot Device and set it to HDD.
The clue : "Computer Ran Into a Problem. INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE"
