Hard drive problem with Windows 8 installed

I installed windows 8 in HDD 1tb Seagate. Then I bought Corsair 240 SSD drive and fresh installed everything there.
Now if I boot from SSD drive my Seagate won't show up and I have tried other cables I have 5 hard drives in my system. It shows up in boot menu but won't show up in Disk management or anywhere else.
Then I connected it to the USP port and disk shows up no problem. I would like to leave this copy in as a backup so I don't want to delete it.
I can boot into these windows but then my Corsair SSD drive won't show up. Whats up here.
Anybody have any ideas. And pardon my english it is my second language.

When you are in Computer Management > Disk Management on the upper right under More Actions - choose Rescan Disks.

Once it worked for me right away, another time it saw the drive after I did a rescan and then a reboot.

I am having a similar problem, and it is roughly 5 months after this first post.

Been searching the web for a solution to my problem, only to find more people having the same problem but no real solution.

My system has a SSD with Windows 8 installed on it, and a secondary SATA platter HD @ 7200 RPMs. For some reason, the platter drive seems to keep getting dropped from the system as if it isn't even there, just as described by some other posts I've read about this elsewhere.

Having to go into the device manager and scan for changes just to get it to temporarily work again, is ridiculous.

Just want a fix for it, or point me in the right direction, because I can't seem to find it. Please help!

Does the HDD still have the OS on it? If so, remove it. Next make sure that the SSD is in the right SATA port, it should be in SATA port 0. Like my borad it has 4 ports, labeled 0,1, 2, 3 (all sata ports are labeled this way)... which in laymens terms is 1, 2, 3, 4. Then your 1 TB drive should be attached to sata port 1. Then check all your sata cable connections to the board and drives that they are firmly seated. Next, you should be running your SSD in AHCI mode for compatibility issues.

I had the same problem as you did, I rearranged my sata port connections to the proper order, check cables so they are firmly seated. Then change my sata ports to AHCI mode and haven't had a problem since.

Note: it could be a bad cable or bad port.

The SSD works fine, its the platter system that gets dropped. Having the SSD in AHCI mode would fix the problem of the platter drive getting dropped? And yes, SSD is in the 0 slot and the platter drive is in the 1 slot. All new cables, by the way.

Could be! I'll try switching it up, and if I don't come back here to update, that was it.

Okay, none of that worked.

OS: Windows 8
Motherboard: Biostar A780L3B
CPU: AMD Athlon II x4 (640) 3.0 GHz (95W model)
RAM: 8 GB dual channel enabled 2x 4GB sticks of DDR3
Video: Radeon HD 6670
Sound: the onboard/mobo sound is being used
HD 1: OCZ-SOLID3 (SATA II) 60GB (OS installed on this drive, in the SATA 1 slot on-board [SATA 0 in BIOS])
HD 2: Seagate 160 GB 9CZ112-160 (SATA 2 on-board, SATA 1 in BIOS)
And in SATA 3 on-board I have a generic CD/DVD RW-ROM, manufactured by LightScribe.

I tried disconnecting the CD/DVD rom, and plug in the Seagate drive in its place and using its cable, since it seems to work just fine. No deal, same problem. Windows boots up, sees the drive, but it periodically drops from the system. Trying to access the drive takes exceptionally long periods of time, sometimes causes system hangs, and sometimes works without a hitch.

The drive was used in a Windows 7 setup as an additional drive, and worked just fine with the exact same setup. I have only recently upgraded the motherboard, memory, video card, CPU. Pretty much a new computer, using the same 2 hard drives.

Putting the drives into AHCI mode makes Windows 8 not boot at all, get an error message when trying to boot up. Do I have to reinstall the whole system while the drive is in AHCI mode to work? Doesn't seem like something you can just change a setting for.

What really doesn't make sense, to me, is that after it does start working correctly it was as if there wasn't even a problem with the drive. It's like it has a mind of its own as to when it wants to work or not. It is making troubleshooting difficult.
