Problem with Xbox Wireless Controller Adapter

I have two Xbox360 Controllers. Two years ago I bought a Xbox Wireless Adapter on eBay.

I think it's not genuine, only compatible. With Windows7 I managed to install its drivers in this way:
-control panel
-printer and devices
-unknown device
-right click -properties
-update drivers
and I chose manually a folder in the cdrom I have.
It works. It is strange, for example if you switch usb port it doesn't work anymore. It seems to be not plug&play.

Now with Windows8 Pro if I repeat the steps above , when I choose manually the folder, it says: ...Driver found but error during installation. Pc Wireless Gaming Receiver. Impossible to find the file.....

I have also installed the software from Microsoft Website "Xbox 360 Accessories Software 1.2 64 bit per Windows 7 (exe)" and also the previous version (1.1) that I have in the cdrom but it doesn't work.

Could I have some help please?
Thank you.

I have almost similar issue but with Logitech Wireless Gamepad F710.

From another website, someone suggested to use the Connect Utility which I did but I still have problem:
I actually don't remember doing anything special to get it working. I installed the "Logitech Gaming Software" from their web site. Go here:

Support + Downloads: Wireless Gamepad F710 - Logitech

and click "Downloads"; get the Windows 7 software, for 64-bit: lgs510_x64.exe.

As a last resort, you may or may not need to re-pair the gamepad with the receiver; should that become necessary, use the "Wireless Gamepad F710 Connect Utility" and follow the instructions on-screen.
I tried using the Connect Utility last night. The instructions from the Utility was pretty clear - take out the nano receiver, take out one battery from the gamepad, plug in the nano receiver, plug in the battery.

When I plugged in the nano receiver, the utility detected it and there was a count down timer for me to plug in the battery. I plugged in the battery, the Connect Utility detected the game pad and turn green with a huge "CONNECTED" word.

Unfortunately, Win 8 Device Manager is still not showing it as working and the Logitech Profiler and Win 8 cannot detect the gamepad!

that's a fake wireless receiver.

a real one has "Microsoft", not "Xbox 360". there's also an authenticity hologram label on the underside. Windows 8 has drivers for the official version. no need to download or install anything.

I finally solved this problem by installing XBox 360 drivers from MS. And then going to Device Driver and do a manual driver update. I have to force it to accept the XBox 360 controller and Windows will flash out a warning about driver compatibility which I ignored. Then it works. Device Manager showed the install device as XBox 360 controller instead of Logitech.

Hey clawork

I also had a problem with this and just managed to solve it after reading this forum. I too am running Windows 8 and have the exact same unofficial (rather than fake :O) wireless adapter. My experience was that whilst it would always light up when plugged in and even got the Xbox pad to react when searching, it never sync'd the pad. Anyway, just try the following steps:

1) Do as you did before - go to device manager, right-click on the "unknown device" and select "update drivers", followed by "browse my computer for driver software".
2) Now, instead of pointing to the location in the provided folder search bar, click on the option below this, which reads "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
3) You will be presented with a list - scroll to the bottom of this, select "Xbox accessories" and click "next"
4) You'll see a new list. Scroll to the bottom again and the last two entries should be drivers for the "Wireless receiver". Select the last one (should have the later date of the two) and click "next"

At this point you'll receive a warning to the effect of "by installing this driver you may inadvertedly cause the destruction of the earth". Just ignore this, as there's no point in having an earth full of unusable gamepads anyway. Use the dialogue box as appropriate to complete the installation, which should take just a few seconds, and then all being well you will have a working wireless receiver immediately.

Let me know how you get on.

Regards,

Lloyd

Hey Zetto

Did you manage to install the drivers as per the steps above? Maybe you need advice on how to use the adapter. You'll notice when it's plugged in that the green light comes on. Each time you press the button, you should see it switch from a solid light to a blinking light. If this is the case, follow these steps:

N.B. make sure your Xbox is unplugged so that the pad doesn't link with that

1. Press the button until the light is solid
2. Turn on your gaming pad. All four quadrants of the Xbox button should flash a few times.
3. As soon as possible, press the button on the wireless receiver so that it starts flashing.
4. From here two things could happen:
a) all four quadrants of the Xbox button start to flash quickly at the exact moment you press the button on the wireless receiver, but only for a moment, after which just one quadrant lights up and your pad is sync'd
b) either because there's a technical problem or because you weren't fast enough, the pad fails to link. All four quadrants of the Xbox button flash - in some cases quickly first and then slowly, or otherwise just slowly. In this case, press and hold the sync button on your Xbox pad for a second or two (you will see a circular rotation of the quadrant lights).

If the pad does not sync at this point as per a), you should try pressing the button on the receiver again to bring back the 'solid' green light status, pressing the sync button on the pad to activate a new search, then quickly pressing the button on the wireless receiver again. If each time you activate the wireless receiver the pad reacts by initiating a quick flashing of all quadrant lights, followed by a slow flashing (no sync occurs), then it's quite likely you have a software rather than a hardware problem.

I hope this made sense. Let me know how you fare. If you're still unsuccessful, perhaps you could describe the events in detail.

Regards,

Lloyd

Okay, that's great.

But what happens with the wireless receiver and your Xbox pad when you try to sync them?

Make sure the receiver light is solid, not flashing, then press the sync button on the Xbox pad. When the lights start circling, press the receiver button once so that it starts flashing (don't hold the button). Do the lights stop circling when you do this or do they continue for a while after?

Okay, yes. Seems very much like it's a hardware issue. Good thing you sent it for repair :O)

Many thanx Lloyd. I followed all the steps regarding the driver not recognising and it wasn't until I picked the older of the two for some reason (second to last) that it started working.
Now my wife and I can pew pew together in Lego Marvel :p
