Win 8 won't recognize wireless adapter

I installed Win 8 Pro upgrade 2 days ago on my laptop. At first, my wireless adapter was working fine as the Win 8 install process checked for updates before beginning. Update seemed to work fine but after completion I descovered my wireless adapter no longer worked. I need help getting my adapter working again. Here is my system information:

Computer is a Dell 6000 Laptop
    Old OS was Windows XP
    New OS Win 8 PRO
Ethernet Adapter works with Win 8, wireless adapter does not
    Wireless adapter is a Intel PRO/Wireless 2200 802.11
No errors shown in Device Manager ... but ...
Device Manager does not recognize the wireless adapter hardware

Would appreciate help with resolution. If new or different driver needed might also need help in installing on Win 8 Pro

    Thanks in advance . . .

    Hi KayEee. Welcome to EightForums.

Not knocking it, but quite an older machine you have there. Mine is somewhat also. Device manager doesn't recognize at all? Try search for new hardware within Device Manager? Possible it missed it upon installation.

You could go to Network and sharing centre, click Change Adapter settings, disable wireless network, reboot and see whether it helps.

HippsieGypsie pointed me in the right direction. Search for new hardware did not work but I found an option to install hardware. Found the Intel Adapter and installed it from the Internet. All is well and thanks to all for their suggestions.

Oh good! You're up and running. I had a feeling it missed it upon installation. Software is just weird that way sometimes. Enjoy!

    Hi.
i have something similar. In win7 lan adapter works without problems. Now i switch to win8 and at first startup no adapter. When i try to install lan drivers an error popup that there is no intel adapters ) but after restart it works. So basically i must start windows and then restart it again. Even if i uninstall adapter i cant install drivers by the same error that MB doesnt have intel lan adapter....
Why is that? Can somebody point me in what direction i must dig or how to solve it

Hi Karman1977! Did you somehow solve your problem? I have the same problem as yours.

    Hi there,

I'm currently experiencing the same issue (no wifi adapter) device manager only shows atheros ethernet adapter, and under "other devices" there is a list of "unknown device" with hazard stickers next to them Click image for larger version.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!
