Create custom sound events?

Well gang, I have questions.

With Windows 8, it is basically the end of the startup sound. Technically, it can be enabled, but there isn't a new one. It is also the end of the shutdown sound, as well as sign in/out sounds.

That kind of sucks.

I like the new sound scheme, but I'd like to add on to it. I'm wondering if there is a possible way to add custom sound events like shutdown sound and sign in/out sounds. I feel like Task Scheduler could be used, but I'm a bit lost in how to do that. Maybe a script can be made that sounds off a sound, but then the event to trigger it is more trickier.

Anyone?

I would not use task scheduler for this. The task may get delayed and the sound may not play right away. You can try it, but I wouldn't do it that way.

Backup your registry.....
Also, export keys before modifying them

I found the reg keys to add the entry back in, but have not spent enough time to try and make them work. They don't work even after modifying the following

hkey_current_user\Appevents\EventLabels

change ExcludeFromCPL = 0

All the entries are there from Win7 and so should work, but maybe they took the pointers out of the dll, I don't hack dll's so couldn't say for sure. Not sure why they don't sound off.

Hmmm, I was looking around and I found the sound scheme events. I tried adding a resource (the file pathway) and no go.

Looking into this, it seems the sounds are associated, might be the pointers, with mmres.dll. I'll post a screenshot later from regedit. I played around with it and if you delete the label, it goes away from the sounds dialogue box.
