Lock Screen Display changes to Default after shutting down

On my Win8.1 machine, I set the lock screen display (as shown in the image) as opposed to the default one.
But sometimes after shutting down my notebook after longer periods of time, it changes back to the default lock screen display. Why is this?

When the lock screen kicks in after a certain amount of idle time, it does stay on the setting that I had chosen, but sometimes after a long periods of shutdown, booting back up the system changes the lock screen display to the default one.

I had done nothing as far as security lockdowns or anything like that.

Hello win8freak, :)

In Windows 8 and 8.1 there are two "Lock" screens.

  • The user lock screen is the one that displays when a user locks the PC while still signed in to Windows, and when the user is selected on the sign in screen, times out, and returns to the lock screen. Each user is able to change their lock screen background image to an image of their choice.
  • The default Lock screen image is the one that displays when there are no users currently signed in to Windows or selected on the sign in screen.

If this is the lock screen showing when no users are signed in, then it's the default lock screen.

Ok thanks for the explaination, I was referring to the Default Lock Screen such as the Rainbow looking image.
Sometimes, after booting up my notebook after long periods of shutdown, it does revert back to the default lock screen image (Rainbow image).
But sometimes. for example, I left my notebook turned off overnight, and then when I turned it ON this morning, it showed the one I set like in my above image.

It just does this sometimes where the default rainbow image Lock Screen appears after my system boots up after longer periods of being turned OFF.

Why is this happening?
Can someone explain this please?

My Win8.1 Pro is Activated and running as an Admin User Account.
No Security Lockdown policies are in place either.

Has anyone had problems like this?

I mean I don't mind, but it is rather annoying.

The one you set is specific to your account, and is the image that will show on the lock screen while your account is still signed in.

The other default rainbow image is what shows on the lock screen when no accounts are signed in.

You can use the tutorial I posted above to change the default lock screen to any image you like. :)

The tutorial only provides the steps for adding a customized Lock Screen image and not the ones provided by Microsoft in Win8.1. Meaning adding your own customized Lock Screen image.

My issue is this >>> It does not happen all the time. Only sometimes. Sometimes the Rainbow image will appear and sometimes not.
Is this by design or is this a bug on Win8.1?

Now after turning OFF my notebook for the whole entire night, it did show the Lock Screen image that I had set myself like shown here in my image when I turned it ON this morning. But sometimes, it would go back to the default rainbow image for some strange reason..

I need someone to confirm if this is a bug in Win8.1 or is this by design?

The lock screen that shows will depend on if you are still signed in. This will be wakeup from sleep/hibernate (user) VS startup from shutdown (default).

You could set to use the same image in your screenshot above for the default lock screen.

Well, that's what I did, the image I posted is my current Lock Screen default image which I had set myself, but the default image sometimes changes back to the rainbow image after a shutdown.
