Hello,

I was wondering if anyone's tried changing the built-in Windows 8 volume indicator? I am thus far unable to find anywhere that I can make it larger, smaller or where it appears on the screen. Anyone else tried doing this?

Thanks

You mean the little bar that appears on the top left? Nope. It's another notification, just like app notifications popup on the top right hand side of the screen. That will actually be changing soon when Xbox Music rolls in, when you have that app open or playing music or I bet in general, that popup will show player controls for music along with the album cover of what you're listening to.

Hmm...
What volume indicator appears on top left?

I know only one volume indicator (and a second one in metri ui, nothing else)

You can change this:
original-100.png

to look like this (125%):
original-125.png

or like this (150%):
original-150.png

but all items change their size (example 125%):

The metro UI version of the volume indicator remains the same:

That's all for the original volume indicator.

Sorry if i'm talking about the wrong button here.

Not the standard one included with Windows since the NT days but the new one that basically maps for any media key on any device and displays in the top left in blue with a number value and vertical bar whenever the media/volume hotkey is pressed.

I was hoping there was a registry key with hexi or deci values for size/color or something like that. Since this is a Metro UI notification app tie-in, then that is definitely not going to be the case now that I think about it more. But, you never know.

I see. Never paid attention to that one but i've seen it.

I'm afraid you're right: it is a bit small and the registry should be involved but I don't know any metro customizations in the registry yet.
Yes it's a bit early for that and we'll have to wait for the moment.
