David, what I am looking for is not the lightblue icon, which is good for recognizing the old-style control panel. I am looking for the purple icon, which is good for distinguishing the modern app "PC Settings".

Of course I will use the different icons for my self-created shortcuts. In the screenshot below, the purple icon in the taskbar appears just by pinning, but the purple icon in the shortcut named "__PC-Einstellungen%" is self-created.

Since no location with an ico file for the purple gear is known, my guess now is, the modern immersive control panel might generate its icons in a different way. Possibly it uses the png files in "C:\Windows\ImmersiveControlPanel\images" and assigns them a colored background. Look at the <Applications> section in "C:\Windows\ImmersiveControlPanel\appxmanifest.xml". This is only a wild guess, but if so, we would never find a purple ico file on board. Except somebody knows a trick...

Thanks for your particular engagement, anyway!
Max

Guess confirmed by other web resources: Every modern app draws from its own stock of png files.

Desktop shortcut to modern immersive "PC Settings" may be easily created with target
"explorer shell:Appsfolder\windows.immersivecontrolpanel_cw5n1h2txyewy!microsoft.windows.immersivecontrolpanel"

But its specific icon needs to be converted manually from "C:\Windows\ImmersiveControlPanel\images". Or you use third party tool "ModernApp link 2.3 beta", available on softpedia, not tested personally.

This holds for Windows 8.x and 10.
