hi everyone.

I have this strange problem and i tried searching for it on web but to my surprise, i found ZERO results with that. So, i guess this problem is with me only.

I am installing custom 3rd party themes by patching the uxtheme.dll file using uxtheme patcher. I have placed themes in c:\windows\resources\themes. First of all i cannot apply theme. I see them in Personalization menu but when i click it, windows go black and then comes back to normal BUT without the theme applied. I go to the folder of uxtheme patcher and i run the application (or better to say the service) and then apply the theme. This time themes applies fine and perfect.

When i reboot system, the theme has unloaded and i have to do the whole steps from start i.e. going to uxtheme patcher and starting the application and then reapplying the theme.

Can anyone tell me what is this problem and how to resolve it?

Do yourself a big favor and ditch the UxTheme Patcher, it is nothing but a bunch of headaches and come the time when you want to uninstall it, it will give you nothing but problems. The UxTheme Patcher presents a problem also whenever Windows Updates are put out, you have to shut it down or uninstall it then select the default Windows theme whenever you install Windows Updates otherwise it will create havoc on your system. The UxTheme Patcher has never worked right, even on Windows 7 and still does not work right despite it's developers claims that it does.

There is a better way to run custom themes by running what is called a UxThemeSignatureBypass created by Big Muscle, I've created a easy tutorial on how to get and install the UxThemeSignatureBypass which you can have up and running in less than ten minutes. The UxThemeSigantureBypass does not conflict with Windows Updates and you can leave it running with your third party theme running during Windows Updates. Only thing is that you have to have AeroGlass installed to use the UxThemeSignatureBypass.
