I'm actually in a search for some time. Namely I'm looking so called desktop tweaks, gadgets, widgets or however you call them. A search for windows 8 brought me on a windows website where they say that there is no more support for them. However the things I'm looking for are: cpu, ram, hdd monitor, weather, network monitor, maybe some bookmarks widget and such. You can see some examples on following pictures(windows 8 examples)

When I see such heavily modified and overcrowded desktops I often wander how much meaningful work has been done on those computers. Also, unless a very powerful computer, running menial tasks, so much load on memory and CPU/GPU is bound to degrade it's performance.
