Way to increase amount of text seen on desktop icon?

Is there a way to increase the amount of text seen on a desktop icon on Windows 8.1? I would like to be able to see the full file name of a file on the desktop.

Press Windows key +U, bring up Ease of access options, shows ways to make it larger, but this would affect all on desktop i believe. Only other way, right click desktop, select View, make icon bigger. Believe in certain instances when text is long will cut off some of it, can rename it different to fit it also. Never had this issue, usually fits, could be using large icons, instead of medium or small.

Thanks, I'm aware of those options, but I'm not looking to increase the size of the icons, I'm looking to be able to display more of the file name of the document icon on the desktop. I'd like to keep the size of the icons and text the same, but see more of the file name.

You could try this tutorial but, depending on your icon size and screen resolution you may only gain 20 -30 percent more characters.

This sounds like your best bet, as i do not know of any other way, as being closer together is what may shorten the names. One thing you can try is , do not use Auto Arrange, when right clicking the desktop un-select it, might help too. That way move icon to where ever you like giving the possibility of more space, similar idea to this tutorials way.

Use small or tile.
