Solved Default Icons

Hi all,
I have been customising my laptop. I was just wondering if there was any way to change the default icon on the system library folders (music, downloads etc) I would like to keep them and not get rid of them via reg etc. I have changed all the drive icons via registry (class>applications>explorer etc) I have tried everything. Changing custom library folder icons is easy via notebook, but these system folders are proving impossible. Thanks for any help received.

Thanks, Brink.
Thanks for the info and help. Still can't seem to do anything with the folders, though.
I have put on a screenshot of my screen to explain which I am trying to do. I think I'm missing something or am being a bit numb

Thanks very much,

Ah, I see now. Those are shortcut links of your user folders instead of libraries.

What I posted above will only work when for what you see when you have Libraries selected in the navigation pane.

To change the icons of user folders, you could use OPTION TWO in the tutorial below instead. :)

Thanks again. It worked in the users location but didn't show in "this PC" and I now admit defeat and give up!
Thanks for your input, Brink.

If you like, you could manually change the (Default) "Data" value of the DefaultIcon subkey at each registry key location below to change the icon.

You would first need to change the owner of the DefaultIcon registry subkey for each key below to be the Administrators group, and set permissions to "Allow" Administrators "Full control".

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorial...le-folder-drive-registry-key-windows-8-a.html

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorial...low-deny-access-users-groups-windows-8-a.html

You would need to use the full path of the .ico file you want for the "Data" value.

Each key below is for one of the user "Folders" in This PC.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace\{1CF1260C-4DD0-4ebb-811F-33C572699FDE}

Hi again Brink,
Tried that. There is no default icon subkey, so I created one, set the full path etc...nothing..
I am now convinced that it can't be done! Thanks for trying anyway.

Odd, there should have been by default.

If you like, post a screenshot showing these keys expanded open in your registry like above to see what the issue could be.

Hi Brink,
The screenshot you wanted to see. You will note that strangely there is nothing to expand in the subkeys.

Cheers David,
That worked like a charm. There must be a way to do it other than a third party prog though. I'm sure it can be done via the the registry somehow.

Brink, did all that and still nothing. Looks like I'll be paying for this app in a week. lol. It must be able to be done, I presume this prog is tantamount to a macro to change the registry.

David, another question. How did you get your screen to look the way it does? By that I mean the way a theme is carried throughout all of the screens and not just desktop.
