Adding Features to 8.1 Industry Pro

Hello everyone, I'm a member on sevenforums and usually post a lot there but its my first time here. I do plan on possibly helping out here on issues in the future but I have a question today.

I got a copy of Windows 8.1 Industry Pro and it seems like a stripped down version of 8. My question is, what app do I need for the Search feature to look for/suggest Apps from the windows store and/or other results?

For example, on a normal 8 install if I search for Netflix and I don't have the App, I get suggestions on where to download it. For me, it will display no results if I don't have the program/app Im searching for locally.

Thanks in advance!

Where did you obtain this version of Windows 8.1? Google seems to think its Windows 8.1 Embedded ? If true what is it installed on?

Thanks for your reply.

IMHO, not the right choice for that hardware. Embedded is meant to run on Point Of Sale systems etc. At least that's my understanding. I think you'd be better off with the regular 8.1 Core or 8.1 Pro. Pro if you can get it.
See if this fixes your search issue, http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/27645-search-online-bing-turn-off-windows-8-1-a.html

Yeah I realize its not the optimal OS for my machine but its free and actually very fast.

That link actually sort of helped but I think I found my problem and its that when I search, I don't have the option to search Apps via metro screen and it doesn't seem to search Windows Store either.

I haven't looked at the ins and outs of Embedded versus normal Windows but you may find other restrictions as you keep using it. Can you not get the regular 8 Core or 8 Pro where you got Embedded?

So what exactly happens when you do a search? I have the Integrated Bing search function (that I linked to) disabled. I don't need or want online search results when I'm looking for something on my PC locally. Usually I just launch the Start Menu and start typing. If I need an App for something I just open the Windows Store and use its search function. I have 4 PC's so usually I just go to the My Apps section of the Store for Apps I've already used/bought.

No I had one Windows 8 key but I installed it on my mothers PC. I actually like the stripped down version and so far I haven't seen any significant restrictions. I can use Hyper-V and AD (for learning purposes) just fine I just wanted to add a few features to make it a little prettier.

If you go to the Windows store and do a search, can you find the Apps you want? It sounds like some of the standard Apps include with 8 Core or Pro are not standard on Embedded.

Yeah, I was supposed to edit that post but got pulled away..

Basically I want it for aesthetics and laziness reasons. I can go to windows store but I really just want it on the search charm. I want to go to the metro screen/search and type "weather" and get options from Windows Store. If Im not mistaken I've seen that happen on an MVA video I was watching recently.

I'll just check out the standard apps that comes with the normal 8 installs and stop being lazy. :)

Thanks for the help.

That link I posted earlier has to do with the desktop search also searching the Internet. http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/27645-search-online-bing-turn-off-windows-8-1-a.html There is an option to turn it off during the Install, I do. Have a look at the settings, your fix may be as easy as turning a few things back on.

Yeah I already followed the link and it gets me close so that I get other results rather than only local results but I still never get to Windows Store results via the search charm. Am I just mistaken about this?

I don't know, I have the Bing search function disabled. I just open the Windows Store and search from there when I'm actually looking for an App. I would think you'd get adds for Apss, that if you clicked on and followed would lead you to the Store.

You're probably right and Im probably just being unreasonable I just didn't want to have to go to Windows Store and search. I'll probably just bite the bullet and use the store or when I stop being lazy about it I'll go crazy and compare the apps between the two. :)
