There are others to do the same job but this is so easy a baby chimp could do it. (apologies to baby chimps, and their mums).

Shortcut Arrow - Change, Remove, or Restore - Windows 7 Help Forums

If you are like me, you hate those annoying little arrows that cover your icons up on the desktop. I know its only a cosmetic thing, but this worked in about 3 seconds!! Nice clean icons and no installation.

I can't stand the default arrows (I think they're just too big) but the 'classic' ones are fine for me. I'm currently using the classic arrows on all of my computers. I always change them in the registry, but I have used programs to do it before (when I'm too lazy).

I asked yamicsoft, the people who make Windows 8 Manager (very useful) why the open desktop directly on boot up didnt work. They said, after about a dozen emails on total uncomprehension and answers that contradicted each other, that it did not work in Windows 8, only windows 8.1!!!

I said then why is it in your software as WINDOWS 8 MANAGER. Got another email off an idiot who then tried to tell me it DID work in win 8 - which it does not. I mention this because it has shortcut arrow removal too. Oh, THAT DOES work
