Default Themes

Thanks for stopping by. I just got Windows 8.1 with my new PC. It's okay so far will def take some time getting used to the OS. By default it only came with 3 themes, none of which are the Windows 7 theme nor the Classic theme. Was this done intentionally? I was able to install classic shell add-on to get the Windows 7 start menu back....Got any ideas on what to do about the themes?

Are you certain there are only three themes? If you right click the desktop, as in Windows 7, and select personalise, you should see the usual selection. Select one of the "Windows Default Themes", for example, and then click "Desktop Background", you should have a selection to choose from..

I see what you mean. These themes are terrible. The ones on the Windows themes site aren't any better. Can I import the ones from Windows 7 into Windows 8?

I am not in a position to try that, but I read that it cam cause problems. But, in the same window suggested, have you tried clicking into the small print on the right "get more themes on line" There are a ton of them there which might satisfy you.

These themes use built-in theme engine so there's no need to modify system dlls like other themes.
