Im working on relocating the remaining metro apps I havent been able to remove and I believe I've found the way to do it!! Problem is - most of them link to a blank file of sorts (if you check the properties).

I intend to create shortcuts based on said file, then change the icon to match what its supposed to look like. After deleting the icons which are attached to folders which seem to be magically invisible (Productivity/tools/photo/etc) I will be able to create my own folders and put the newly created icons in them and hopefully be a happy panda!!

ive wasted far too much time on this >.< who has my back? :p

Not sure if I fully understand what you're trying to do but the stock images are in C:\Program Files\WindowsApps
(you'll have to 'Show hidden files and folders' and 'Take Ownership' of the entire 'WindowsApps' folder)
(you may have to convert the stock png image to an ico image)

Long story short I'm trying to customize my apps menu portion of the metro UI. Problem that presents itself is that items such as PC settings postition themselves in a category called "productivity" which is usually a folder (which is how I am customizing by creating my own folders/ala categories.

Productivity doesn't exist, it's somehow part of the icon itself. The only work around I've been able to come up with (even moving it doesn't work) is to create my own shortcut and folder and position it where I want it within the start menu/apps view.

Unfortunately PC settings and control panel are one and the same and the only difference in functionality comes from the location you execute the shortcut from. This leaves me with a "PC settings" Shortcut that looks like the control panel icon.

I've been trying to find all the default icons but have had no luck. I can't look now but I assume that is what you linked me therefore should solve my problem )

You have my gratitude!!

On a side note, also looking for a way to hide Icons such as camera so I don't have to actually delete it in order to stop it from appearing under a "faux" photo folder in apps view. For some reason those last few uninstallable metro apps have the "hide" box (under read only in properties) greyed out and unselectable)

Thank you again for the reply!

On your Apps screen sort apps by 'name' so you can name your custom folders whatever you want, (they will get listed alphabetically).
To hide tiles, create an auxiliary folder outside of 'Start Menu' folder but keep it in the System Directory.
PC Settings icons are in C:\Windows\ImmersiveControlPanel\images, btw)
This may help:
Cleanup the All Apps Menu in Windows 8.1 - Edwin000's library

Have you tried 'OblyTile' to customize your icons, because you have to change 5 sizes of metro icons; OblyTile does it for you.

Your officially my hero! Got exactly what I was asking/wanted! Worst part is I'll now have to do a /sfc and some to clean up the mess I made and do it the "right" way lol.

Thanks again! Eager to see what they do with windows 9 after this experiment :p. it isn't all that bad in function but implementation woo boy! :p
