Hello,

So on my computer, something strange happens when I uninstall UxStyle. It has broken my Windows install once and it has done it again. The first time, I kept on doing system restores to see what was the problem that made that black screen. After trial and error, I narrowed it down to UxStyle. So, I deleted Windows 8 and installed Windows 7, which is what I wanted in the first place. Now, I decided to triple-boot Windows 7 with Vista and 8.1, and it has succeeded. I reinstalled UxStyle thinking it was just a problem with my old Windows install, and then uninstalled it after a few days since I felt like the regular look was better. I rebooted Windows and the same effect happened.

So, I would like to know if I can get and replace those three patched DLLs with unpatched DLLs for Windows 8.1. Could I just change the broken ones to have .old next to them and then place the ones I get here there? Also, would sfc /scannow work?

I can't seem to run SFC /scannow from the recovery disk because it says 'the service cannot be started' or something. May I get those three files to replace?

Did you use Option One to do it at boot?

Yep. My diskpart looks like this:

Volume 0 (F:\) Win8_x64 UDF DVD-ROM 5352MB Healthy
Volume 1 (C:\) Windows 7 Home Premium NTFS Partition 691 GB Healthy
Volume 2 (D:\) Windows Vista Home Premium NTFS Partition 180 GB Healthy
Volume 3 (E:\) Windows 8 Home Edition NTFS Partition 60GB Healthy

So from this, I enter:
sfc /scannow /offbootdir=C:\ /offwindir=E:\Windows

Then the response is:
Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service.

I cannot boot into safe mode because it apparently loads those dlls and the screen is messed up there as well.

I ended up reinstalling Windows 8. So, I will try to remember to never to install UxStyle again.

Sorry that you had to reinstall. :(

For the future, be sure to create a restore point before installing or making any changes that may cause adverse effects. This way you could just do a system restore with the restore point to quickly undo it. It can be a quick life saver.
