Hello Community of the Eightforums,

You ( especialy "Bongo" ) were recommended to me from the autoit forum. The problem is the following:
There are tools that can make the windows explorer changing the background of the explorer:

Change folder background with Windows 7 Folder Background Changer

Ave's Vista Apps: Vista Folder Background

But I cannot get them to work in Windows 8. ( is this maybe because the syslistview32 disappeared? )
I try to code an own one but I need to know how they worked ( in principle ). I asked the authors of the linked programs
but they dont reply. Ok in windows XP this was a build in feature so it all was about an ini-file.
But they got it to work in windows 7 also. Why does it break in windows 8 then?

How does it work in principle
Why doesnt it ( seem to ) work in win 8 anymore?
Who has got a really basic understanding of the windows explorer?

Thank you all very much

Welcome to the Eight Forums

I'm sorry I won't be able to help you with that I've never had good luck trying to change the background of a folder.

If you are referring to the folder image, it still is easy to change.

First, you have to gain access to the folder through This PC to get the Customized tab when you click Properties. The customized tab does not show up in Libraries.

I couldn't get it to accept a JPEG image from inside the folder like XP did. So I just took the image I wanted, reduced it to 256 by 256 and Save it as an .ico Then changed the icon & OK

I hope that's what you're looking for.

Hello pcRat,

Thanks for your reply. But I think you missunderstood me. Look at the tools I have linked. Their screenshots explain better what I mean:

Changing the background of the folder CONTENT ( when browsing the folder ) not the image/ icon of the folder itself

windows-7-folder-with-background.png

This is not possible in windows 8.1 anymore.
Any other suggestions?

Actually it is possible because WindowsBlinds from StarDock does it just fine. We just have to figure out how they do it in the app and do it outside of using an app. But my point is, if an an application/program can do it, so can we...
