That screen is not available to me in Windows 8.1. The only options are smaller and medium (125%). If I set it to medium, the mouse wheel stops functioning in Windows Live Mail and I can no longer read my e-mail.

Thanks for all your suggestions. Keep them coming as I'm really struggling to customize my laptop for my low vision, and I totally depend on it for my work.
Did you check the box as indicated ?

Will you post a screenshot of the Display window on your computer ?

    It would help a lot.

    oops! sorry. missed that one!
Sorry it does not work for what you need.
I like it anyway. It takes getting used to and can be turned on and off easily from anywhere.
    Good Luck to you!

Like the others have posted, custom DPI works nicely but they (windows) can become too large to fit on the screen.

Yeah, at times the magnifier is useful. But for daily operations it is too cumbersome. I use it only when a text or item is really itty bitty.

I think I've improved the problem! Somewhere in the dungeons of my laptop I found a place to run repair of Windows Essentials. While it was running, Windows Live Mail crashed. But when the repair cycle was finished, I was able to increase the icon size to medium and the mouse wheel now functions normally for increasing the text size in Live Mail e-mails.

So it looks like there was some corruption in Live Mail that got fixed. I wouldn't say the display size is ideal---it's still very small, but the icons are larger.

Yes, I've done that successfully, but it only changes the size of icon labels on the start page. It does not change the size of icon labels on the open windows in the task bar.
Yes it works, I use that as we speak (set all items to 12pt).

You'll have to set every option to something like 12pt or higher, not just the first item. Then reboot to refresh the cache.
I still see some items shown smaller on Control Panel side options... but the standard theme won't allow ALL items to be resized this way.

Icon size can be changed in any folder and desktop by holding down Ctrl and scrolling with the mouse.

That custom sizing thing ruined my computer. I set it to 500% thinking I would have the 15 second undo thing and after signing out and back in my profile is destroyed. How can I fix it? The windows and text are too large, can't do anything.

500% is a bit huge, you should always begin lower to see how it changes first.

If you can, try applying a registry setting that sets is back to 100% (96dpi).

If system restore points exist before the change, the solution would be rebooting from an install DVD or USB and selecting system restore before the change.

There are probably other ways to fix it.

    Good luck.
