Solved Windows Live Tiles

I was wondering, and please forgive me if this has been asked before, is there any way to create a live tile with a better picture? For instance, I install a program, not an app, and pin to Start, but the icon is ugly and shows a small icon of the program I pinned. I would like to add a graphic to the tile instead of it showing the small icon in the center of the tile. I am learning Windows 8.1 as this is my first time using it. I have only just started using it for about 4 days now. Thank you for any answer given.

There are a couple or so prgrams you can use to build your own icons - Olby Tiles or Modern Tile Maker, for example - Both are free.

If you right click any of your icons in the Start menu and then, at the bottom bar, select "open File location", You can then right click the item at the file location, select properties and then, in the usual way, select "change Icon"

Thank you very much for your help. Yes, I have done that before, changing the icon picture, but I was thinking that maybe they would make customization a little better for the live tiles, knowing that you would get those ugly small icons when you wanted to pin programs to the screen that aren't apps in the app store. I am still getting used to Windows 8.1 but man it is a huge hassle trying to find things that I went straight to in previous windows operating systems. Who approved this new design, anyways? LOL I kind of dig the new live tiles and stuff, but it is going to be a new learning experience to try to get used to it like I did the others. Thank you again. :)

I just tried changing the icons with ones that I downloaded from the internet and it won't accept the icons because they aren't ico or shell32 icon files. I have to choose the icons that are included with Windows, which aren't that great or that big or that useful. I will try the icon creator apps you suggested instead and see if I can make tiles that way, my way, with some of the programs I want on my start screen. Thank you again.
