Help with W8 Shortcuts

Hey all,

I recently made 2 keyboard shortcuts (CTRL+Alt+ [S/W])...

One runs rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState to sleep the PC, and the other is a batch file to activate private wireless broadcasting.

Both files work perfectly when I click them (they are on desktop), and right after I have set the keyboard shortcut (i.e after I have clicked through Properties, and set the keyboard shortcut), they work via the keyboard too.

However, once the PC awakens from sleep, the keyboard shortcuts no longer work (although they did before the sleep). The only way to make the keyboard shortcuts function again is to re-set them in the Properties of the files (although it is worth noting that the properties displays the shortcuts as still being present, despite their sudden loss of function).

Why does this happen? I want to make it so the keyboard shortcuts work all of the time.

Any help is much appreciated!

Just tested making a shortcut (as you described) to execute a batch file (CTRL + ALT + W):

Laptop 8.1 - Works before and after sleep (manually invoked)
Desktop 8.0 - Same as above

Longshot - Any chance you disabled the hibernate function and completely removed the hiberfil.sys file via "powercfg /h off"?

yes, I disabled hibernate. But the problem persists with it enabled too, the PC just hibernates instead of sleeping.

As for getting it to work, it seems to work 'better' using CTRL + F12 for some reason. It still stops working (seemingly at random) sometimes, but it works maybe 3/5 times now.

For the batch file, to get that to work I had to place the batch file in system32 (not sure if location is important, I put mine in the start menu and set it to hidden), make a shortcut to it, run the shortcut as admin, give that shortcut a keyboard shortcut, then it worked... now this works all of the time. Weird, eh?

We could talk about this a bit more but I'm just going to say "Glad you found a solution." Good luck.
