Yes, I've restored it in Windows 8. It's the same procedure as in Windows 7 to restore Quick Launch in Windows 8 as well. Once you open the Desktop by clicking on the "Desktop" appp on the Metro "Start" screen, you should be able to use the same tutorial below to do it.

I thought you meant to add Quick Launch to the taskbar by adding it as a toolbar. That's what I meant was the same.

Oh yes, toolbars are very helpful and versatile indeed.
