Dual Display Wallpaper Disappearing issue

Hi guys,

I'm running Windows 8 pro with 2 screens.

The desktop wallpaper disappears quite often. Sometimes if I "refresh" on a certain screen, the desktop will come back temporarily.

Any idea on how to fix this?

You did not provide any information in your "My System Specs" so we don't know what kind of PC/Laptop you have. However, I am giving you some guess work here:
  1. Update your video driver to the latest
  2. Resize the wall paper to match exactly the same as your monitor resolution
  3. If the file size of the Wallpaper you use is huge then you might need to optimize it down to reasonable size so it will not take too much time to load/refresh. Normally the size of the wallpaper is 300-400K but I've seen cases where people use an image with 2-3 Meg in size.
Hope this helps !!!

If you still have the same problem after following the 2 guys' advice above, check 2 more things:

1. Is your wallpaper in slideshow mode and you have "Shuffle" enabled? (See photo) Disable "Shuffle" mode.

wallp.jpg

and 2.) Wallpapers occassionaly disappears if you have an unactivated windows OS installed. You need to activate it if you haven't done so.

Cheers!

Thanks guys,

I'm updating my system specs right now in USER CP.

This is a fresh install of Windows and it started happening immediately, so I don't think it is malware.

I've tried the latest video driver, as well as the beta driver to no avail.

My screens are 1680 x 1050 and 1980 x 1080. If it is any help, I did not have this issue on Win 7 Pro.

Windows is activated.

Shuffling is off.

I tried setting the wallpaper again from my documents (location of picture) and it appeared, then disappeared after refreshing.

Image size is 574KB.

Thanks!

Temporarily disable Avast + Malwarebytes, set both monitors to be the same resolution 1680X1050 to see if you still get the same behavior.

Do you have the same problem with only one monitor running? How about adjusting refresh rate?

Same issue with one monitor initially... after setting the wallpaper again it hasn't disappeared yet, though. Refresh rates are set to default

Oddly enough, since changing my TV display to 59Hz (vs 60), i haven't had problems. Gonna wait and see how it plays out.

The TV model is X405BV-FHD

Actually, I came across that refresh rate setup when I first fire up may Win 8 system. I didn't pay attention to it but there was a prompt telling me to adjust the refresh rate when using a TV screen. Because I am using my Win 8 system as HTPC. But for regular computer displays, it's ok to leave it at default setting.

My laptop HDMI'd into an HDTV has this same problem. I use "show on monitor 2" setting (or what they used to call projection mode, where ONLY the HDTV displays content). Any time I unplug the HDMI or the power goes out and the HDTV turns off, the laptop switches to its own display. Any time this occurs, my wallpaper goes black. Also happens again when the HDTV is reconnected and the screen switches back to it.

If I right click desktop and pick 'next desktop wallpaper', the wallpaper does return, but it resets back at the first wallpaper in the list instead of remembering where it left off. :(

also verify that none of the pictures are corrupt.

I had that problem. I download wallpapers regularly from InterfaceLift. But once I download them, I didn't bother to check them. Once I found out certain images weren't loading, I noticed they didn't have proper thumbnails (just the generic cartoon picture frame) and they wouldn't load in Photoshop.
