Start Menu 8. Like Start8 but free (and arguably better)

Well that's not too bad. Well, yeah it's bad - but it doesn't sound like anything that would affect my personal data

I just did a test comparison and here's what I think:

I can't see where StartMenu8 is arguably better; however, when you do a price comparison, I think it could end up in a virtual tie with Start8; however, there are a few minor differences as described below:

Start8 is definitely a bit faster at bypassing the start menu and getting to the desktop.
Start8 inserts your custom account picture at the top of the menu whereas StartMenu8 uses a default picture.
(You can insert your own image manually if you go to the Resource folder and change the default user image)
The look, feel, and options are pretty much the same; however, I prefer the Start8 flat button scheme.
Price of free vs. $3.99 makes StartMenu8 the clear winner in this category!

Now, I have been using Start8 during a free 30 day trial period; however, since I hate using my credit card online (and especially for a $3.99 purchase), I have decided to switch to StartMenu8. It compares well to Start8 in most aspects and you can't beat the price!
