Shortcut icons keep changing?

I have been using Windows 8 for a while now and I have noticed a strange problem.
It appears that the shortcuts on my desktop keep having the icon changed (the arrow).
Here is what it should look like normally (I think):

Here is it with a different icon:

Here is it with another icon (from sync center?):

And another (notice the two UAC Shields on the second one):

And here with nothing at all:

What do you think could be causing this? I'm pretty sure I re-installed once and still had the problem. It seems absolutely random and rebooting doesn't really change it. Also I am not sure if this is the right thread, couldn't really figure out what fit.

Never even heard of that until now. Can't find any trace of it on my system. You think installing it could help?

And here is the latest one:

Almost seems like a notifications feature. Downloading update - arrow down, installing update - installer icon, and updated - checkmark. And then of course the regular shortcut arrow. The uac shields mean that program is set to always be run as administrator, without specificly having to do so.

I googled to see if it was a feature but couldn't find anything about it, nor anyone else asking the same question. So in other words i have no clue lol. I know im just so helpfull. :)

If you never heard of Microangelo that's not the problem.

It's a program for dealing with icons.
Rather complicated & NOT cheap.

I think a better solution should be available.

Maybe a System Restore from a time when the problem did not exist.
