Customize tab in File Properties missing

    Hi,

When viewing the Properties of a Folder, there is no CUSTOMIZE tab.
I'm reading a tutorial to learn Windows 8, and it clearly says that I should have one.

Does anyone have an idea why I don't have the CUSTOMIZE tab when viewing folder's properties?

    Thanks!

Hello Dedine, and welcome to Eight Forums.

What's the full path and name of this folder?

...and what are you trying to do?

    Hi Brink,
The path of the folder is the following : C:\Users\Home\Documents\Personal

And I would like to do two things :
    1. change Icon
    2. Go in the "Optimize this folder for" drop down menu.

Thanks for you help. I'm new with Windows 8 and have often questions!!

Are you right clicking on the Personal folder and clicking on Properties from within the actual C:\Users\Home\My Documents folder, and not from within a library?

The "Customize" tab will not be there in libraries.

Oh! Yes, the folder is in Libraries.
Actually, I was wondering what exactly was a Library.
If you have and read that explain what is the purpose of a Library I would appreciate it.

Thanks a lot for your help.

    You're welcome

Libraries are collections where you can get to all your documents, music, pictures, and other files in one single place. In some ways, a library works like a folder: you can use it to browse and sort files. But unlike a folder, a library gathers files that are stored in several locations. This is a subtle, but important, difference. Libraries don't actually store your items. They pull from included folders that contain your items, and let you access and arrange the items in different ways. For example, if you have music files in folders on your PC, a shared folder on your network or homegroup, and/or on an external drive, you can include these folders in your Music library so that you can access all of your music files from your Music library.

Very basically, a library includes a collection of included folders (like shortcuts) that allow you access to all these folders saved at different locations in the one central library.
