At present you will need to find a third party app for that. There are several out there and a Google search will probably turn something up that will help you. . .
There are a great deal of web sites that can give you what you want for example Deviant Art (probably the best), CyrstalXP, along with many more. Remember Google or Bing are your friend. . .yeah I have a thrid party app for that . I just need some cool BG's

Wow! ...another non-answer to a question that begs for much more detail. Windows 8 developers must be under some sort of threat of torture and assassination from Blauner if they talk about what's not good about Windows 8. It seems that criticizing this piece of junk is a serious taboo if they want to keep their jobs. I'm not afraid to get some real discussion started though.
The cruelly limited ability within Windows 8 to personalize anything about it's clunky, un-attractive and impractical appearance, has been a big issue for great numbers of us who have to really use our computers every day to do real work. Inability to customize the start screen background is a major issue in question. I've been using Windows 8 for about two months now and, after many frustrating hours at it, I've succeeded in making my PC work pretty much like MY own computer and not Blauner's. I've managed to find many of the colors and im age settings, but I have to say that just trying to locate where in the computer the existing start screen background images exist has been a real pain in the bum. I have not yet succeeded to figure it out.
However, some developers out there have thankfully managed to work out more than me. Three third-party programs that will help you with the essential task of returning your PCs control and ownership back to you are
Decor8,
Windows 8 Start Screen Customizer,
and Pokki.
The most evident limitation of these programs is that they do not make any lasting changes to your PCs setup, and they must continue to run in the background like one more service gobbling up computer resources already uselessly wasted by other new invasive Windows 8 background tasks. Their effects only remain in place while you are logged in with the program in your startup list. Some of the better anti-virus and anti-spyware programs will actually report them as a threat.
There are a few other attempts at this kind of thing coming from other folks. Each of these utilities are either buggy, incomplete, or otherwise unsatisfying; which is a testiment to the gruesome difficulties that devs are having with the new Win8 registry setup and SDKs. There is plenty of room for improvement with this issue before it gets really better, but I think over time that will happen. Until then, we all share in the struggle.
