Solved Sign out screen different from lock screen?

How do I get the ending screen to be the same as the lock screen?

I love the piano keyboard stock lock screen but can't stand the Seattle Space needle screen.

I logged into the hidden Administrator account and sure enough, the lock screen was the Seattle Space needle screen. I changed it there thinking that would fix the issue but no such luck. The issue, I am assuming has to do with the administrator account.

charm>settings>change pc settings (at the bottom)>personalize --- you have a choice of lock screen, start screen, account picture

oh, but you can only do this if your windows is activated (there is always a catch)

Thanks for the reply...I guess I wasn't clear about my issue. I am in legit activated Win8. I have multiple accounts, mine Admin and my wife's Standard. We have both set our lock screen, start screen, account picture...when my wife logs off or signs out, instead of seeing either of our lock screens we see the Seattle Space needle screen. Thru the hidden Admin account I have seen that the Space Needle is set as its lock screen. Even changing it in the account does not change what is displayed when she has logged out/signed off. I was able to delete the pic, and now instead I see a solid color lock screen *which is better than the Space Needle Screen (IMO) Limited success...but that's still not good enough...

ha, have to agree about the Space Needle Screen, that had to go.
not sure about the problem. i only have me as a user but will give another user a try tomorrow.
as a quick fix could you not just swap in another picture with the same name as the Space Needle Screen you deleted?

Tried that didn't work. Made sure the pic was same size and file extension....but now after the fact, the color depth may have been different if that's an issue...

Soon, someone will make an app that lets us customize Win 8 the way we want...maybe I just need to be patient LOL

I should have explained that I already tried setting the lock screen in "settings/personalize." It worked for the opening lock screen -- but when I sign out, there's the inevitable space needle.

Change Sign Out Screen?

Isn't there a way to change the sign out screen from the Seattle Space Needle graphic?

I changed the lock screen, but when I hit "sign out", there's the Space Needle!

I would love to know how to do this and to change the default purple color as well. It's the same purple background color that shows when you install windows 8. Example of the logon screen when you sign out.

Honestly, I believe the user logon screens are hard-coded that way (purple background, etc). The space needle is likely a system default to be used in place of no personalized user's profile being loaded (after all, you signed out). If you restart the computer while logged in to any particular user, however, the lock screen will be the previous user's.

It could also be a 'default profile'. I know people have changed the default profiles in the past so that new users automatically received certain themes or UI configurations by default, normally in business environments... however I'm not sure how that is actually done or if it's the case in Windows 8.

If you really want to change the space needle that badly, you may need to learn where that particular image is stored, and replace it accordingly.

So has anyone "fixed" this yet?... I've had the OS installed about a week now, set up three other local accounts for each of my children, and the Seatlle screen upon sign out of any of us is really bugging me. One, because I don't like the image, two, because it doesn't seem to be changeable by option. Of course none of our personal lock screens or others elsewhere are of this selection.

It is a changeable option, heres some pictures.

3. Change under the first Personalize tab "Lock Screen".

Unfortunately, Fitz, that doesn't do it... there is a more detailed description higher in the thread from another user, but essentially when you have a system set up with multiple user accounts and someone signs out, the "Seattle screen" shows up by default. Even though none of the users have it selected to represent any kind of lock screen, background, or other image of any kind. Doesn't matter who is logged on then logs off, it will always default to that seattle screen when there is no one logged in. Of course, when a user is logged in and the machine is locked, the appropriate choice selected by that user is shown. It is only when someone logs off. I might add that upon start up, a correctly chosen "lock screen" is shown before anyone logs on.

I might try to dig around some more elsewhere today to see what I can find. Will post back here if I see anything else. Or maybe someone can chime in if they've found a solution yet.

You need to turn on the Show Files and Folders option from Folders Options in order to see it.

Here's how to change the sign out screen:

1. go to folder C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows
   Right click on SystemData ->Properies->Security->Advanced->Change
2. Enter your user name (You must be in Administrators group), then click on Check Names->OK
3. Place a tick on "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects", click Apply ->OK, Yes->OK->OK->OK

Go to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\SystemData\S-1-5-18\ReadOnly\LockScreen_Z

You will see 2 images of the Seattle Space needle in this folder, To view these 2 images.

1. Right click on it->Properties->Securities->Edit->Add
2. Enter your user name, Click on Check Names->OK->OK->OK

Replace these 2 images with whatever images you want, make sure they have the same names and resolution as shown in LockScreen_Z.

IMPORTANT: After swapping the images, Right click on image->Properties->Securities->Edit

1. Read&Execute
2. Read

Sign out, you should see the new Image.

Thanks so much. It is good not to have the Space Needle screen anymore. It took two attempts; a word to others -- follow the directions explicitly! Should the folder permissions be changed back? Is there a negative downside to having made this change?

Actually there are 2 other threads asking the same question and so far I have not heard anybody mentioning about the side effect. The SID => S-1-5-18 is belonged to the User: SYSTEM, so as long as SYSTEM is on the list and has full control, that should not effect anything.

I noticed another folder in SystemData contains the PicturePassword image so I guess if you have enabled that it is better to change back the folder permission.

The tutorial shows how to bypass both the Lock Screen & Sign Out Screen. The OP question is how to replace the image on the Sign Out screen

There is another problem attached to this.. The power settings for default monitor shut off are also NOT set the same as a true users lock screen.

I have a windows 8 machine with 2 users.. If either log out then I am presented with this nasty space needle or whatever you guys are calling it lock screen. If this can be changed my messing around thats fine, but what about the power settings..

What an oversight here by Microsoft.
