Hi everyone,
I have upgraded my OS from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 8 Pro for the sake of driver compatibility and I have this annoying problem that bugs me which is "Gadgets" in desktop right-click menu, I googled it as always but didn't find any fine solution. Care to help me out? :)
Here is a snapshot of my desktop to tell the story better... :)

Thanks

Hello there!

Go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers and see if you find there one of the following paths

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers

hpz364,

You need to delete this key and all its subkeys:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\DesktopBackground\Shell\Gadgets

However, you first need to take ownership of the Gadgets key and give yourself (or the Administrators group) full control of the object and its sub-objects. Then you can delete it and the option will immediately disappear from the Desktop context-menu.

Thanks for the response, however I had done this before and although I took the ownership of the key, the system didn't let me delete it anyway...

You must take ownership of all subkeys and then delete all rights and set "everyone" user all rights in subkeys also. Sorry for my english...
