Microsoft is almost Apple

Most of you are probably thinking...

"Microsoft seems as if they have become Apple with the limited customization options once you dig into there OS. Sure, the desktop seems as if it can have any color it wants, except for maybe 20% of the dark ones. 20 million colors that our eyes can see, and we can't even read our own Window's text."

I am a long-time MS user, and Metro isn't that bad. Just have to adjust!
Feedback and ideas for how MS could insert aero into Windows later, please!

Have a nice day! :thumb:

I am unsure as to what the topic of your post is.

Is it about the limited customisation offered from the get go? And if so are you using the full version of Win8 or the pre-release? Cause to me I am very happy with the customisation though I do wish we could have dual monitor backgrounds on the lock screen.

Or is it about inserting windows Aero into the operating system? In which case many people would just think that it is a Windows 7 remake with a few new updates, The reason that Xp is different to windows 7 is because it doesn't have new features and aero, however both are reasonably reliable. So adding old features defeats the purpose of the designers and the concept to go into the future of a user friendly interface.

Sorry if that didn't make much sense, oh and Windows 8 has an auto-correct feature on its metro apps which means that I don't look like a complete goon for writing without correct use of ' :D

I think Microsoft is becoming the new "apple" in terms of coolness and hype. I've never seen so much coverage about Microsoft in a LONG time, not like this. Regardless of what you think about metro, people are talking BIG time about Windows and Microsoft and Windows Phone as well. They're like the new cool kids on the block, or at least sooner rather than later.

But as for customizing, I do think that could be definitely better. I'm not huge on 20 color presets, especially when Windows Phone 8 has 20 color presets, I kid you not. They should had done a color slider for the Start Screen like in the Desktop, and allowed for custom background color as well. Maybe we'll get that through a hacker or two, Windows 8.5, or in Windows 9 in two years.

Ahh i just read it as a negative post then, my bad!

Anyway thanks for the welcome, though i was a Power User on the SevenForums :D

I think the hype is really revolving around the fact that MS is the first software developer to make a universally usable operating system that can be used on multiple devices, i mean even the XBox is supposedly getting an update to a Win8 version of interface, not even Linux can offer that, i mean sure people have used hashed versions of Unix to Jtag and other versions have been hacked and slashed to work on other devices, but MS is the first to make it officially.

So with that they will hit big and people will start accepting that they will be mainly using one interface with their devices in the coming years, especially if the cost of windows 8 is only £40 from the get go, as apposed to windows 7 which was and still is upward from £60 (Student Discounts)

And i agree with you about the colour customisation, i would really like to be able to change every feature they offer to suit me, however i also understand that they need to lock down all the corridors that lead to the back door problems..

Hi Coke,

You know, it's funny ... I don't hear anyone (outside our geekly little community here) talking about Win8 or Windows Phone. Nowhere. Nada. Nunca. No one I know outside tech has any idea that this is going on. They're using either Android (some) or iPhones (most) and not a single word have I heard about Windows Phone from anyone. They all use desktop Windows but no one knows what's going down with Win8 and I suspect could not care less.
