The word Metro is here to stay

The word "Metro" is like the work "ain't". We ain't supposed to use the work ain't, but we still use it and most of us ain't going to change. Now MS says we should not use the word Metro. But, the way I see it, Metro ain't going away. Besides, it ain't going to make any difference what we call it because whatever we choose to call it, it ain't going to bring back the start button.

That's probably true, Frank, but I'm getting fond of TIFKAM (The Interface Formerly Known As Metro) myself.

You're probably right. They started calling it "Metro" a year ago when they introduced the GUI, spent the year calling it that (and getting us to do the same) now they all-of-a-sudden change it. Sorry. A soda by any other name is still called a "Coke".

Microsoft's people are still using metro to describe the UI, like with Windows Phone's lead director Joe Belfiore, he mentioned it a couple days ago. There are a few other instances...

Modern UI isn't even CLOSE to describe it, it is modern, but what else? Metro describes it as it's based off typography and transportation/navigational symbols. Simple, clean, effective. A better alternative could had been Mosaic. In almost every app, there are tiles. A mosaic of sorts...

Yeah Cokie, "mosaic" appears to be the best term I have come across so far. :thumbup:

Is there anything we can do to inform Microsoft about this? "Modern UI" cannot be considered a term that identifies Windows 8.
