I am a nurse. Working in medium sized hospital with 250 bed capacity.
You can see some pictures of it here Dr. Oen Solo Baru Hospital but surely in our language
Or this Facebook Profile, you can scroll down and see the facilities.

As a nurse, learning some programming and got some English to spit, I also had handled medical record section for 5 years, later I was offered to grab a chair at hospital committee, and appointed to give a hand to IT management. Nice and challenging work actually.
Recently we are developing namely paperless IT system with web based programming. The previous program is using Microsoft Foxpro and still up and running.
For those purposes we need approx 150 workstation. For branded workstation says Dell or Acer with Core-i3 are priced at $550-$650 (no OS). Locally made desktop just cost us $440 plus $71 for Windows7 home premium.

I have trained some talented staffs on basic hardware and software maintenance, and see them work fine. Since the program is web based, we can actually just install Linux OS for the workstation. But let the company spend some budget on Windows.

Thanks for the info, Kevin. I perceive you are a ambitious, intelligent, and very busy man!

I followed your link to your hospital. Thank goodness for a web translator for me to read. Nice facility! You must be proud of being a part.

I did the math and for approx 150 workstations you have spent about $130,000. Quite an investment! Fortunately you acquired quite a savings on the locally- built PCs. One benefit for living in Asia. I bought my Acer T690 with Vista HP, 17" LCD monitor, keyboard, and mouse about 7 years ago. It cost me $665 USD. I was just lQQking and something compatible (with a better chip, mem, etc.) would now cost me here in the States about $800 for just the tower! Add monitor, keyboard, mouse, and tax, it'll be $1,100 to $1,300! ChaChing!

Well. I work in normal way just like the others. Since we work as a team, once everyone shares the proper knowledge and skills, things are carried out much easier in most ways. What make me happy is that most co-workers and my bosses have a good listening and appreciation to every idea. Feel like real human I guess.

Hey I thought all PC things are much much cheaper in US than here? Or it just because most of popular product imported here from China? If you name all from PC product to all gadgets starting from Dell, Acer, HP, Asus, Blackberry, Nokia, etc... here all labeled as made in China..

My Acer is marked made in Taiwan. Whether or not they have China make it would be beyond my knowledge of it.

Why with the inflationary economy here (overhead, fuel, shipping, advertising, too many middlemen, taxes, etc.), products here aren't as reasonably priced as you may think. I don't know what you read in your media in your country, but as I see it, the U.S. is in a world of hurt!

#1 The government is too big. It costs us a fortune in taxes. Roughly 55% of our population works for the government. The Fed Reserve prints $ to lend us to pay back our never-ending mounting federal debt. The more $ printed, the more inflation rises. What a racket!

#2 The unemployment rate here is high do to our lovely housing crash that started the economy downhill. Also, hardly anything is manufactured here anymore. It's all outsourced to other countries, mostly China.

#3 Too many hand-out programs here for people that just, plainly put, don't want to get off there dead horses and work. I'm all for helping the down and out, but not to this extreme.

#4 Fuel and energy is getting out of hand. Perhaps not as bad as the rest of the world, but all the same it's too costly. e.g. I worked as a gas station attendant during high school in 1967. The station had a gas special......get this......10 gallons for $2.00! 40 odd years later we are now paying $3.50 to $4.00 a gallon.

Here I am again on my soap box! I could go on and on, but I'm sure you get my jest.

Hey... Is that right all made in China? Thumbs up for China, they are able to persuade all brand to lay their factory there.

Yes before China era, all things are produced in Taiwan, but then when the labor cost getting higher, Taiwan was then abandoned.
I do have some knowledge about recent economic crisis in USA and Europe. All I thought is just if most counties are doing real business with real goods, real properties, and real trading, I guess we won't get stuck with crisis caused by the virtual business with the virtual money. Some Asian countries now try to boost the medium to low but real business and trading.
The crisis in US and Europe has just made the Asian countries worry. You know, when all imported things are rated in USD. Even when I negotiated the PC price, the PC store owner will just grab a calculator and calculate the price in USD.
I don't know economy, but that is what I thought.

That's because they'll work for peanuts as we say here. There are 1.3 billion and 2/3 of them are like a 3rd world country. Poor as hell, so they are willing to work for less.

I don't mean to worry you. It's not all gloom and doom....yet! If we don't do something quick the whole world will fall like bowling pins in a strike. They calculate in USD, hah? That's probably because all oil bought and sold in the world is transacted with U.S. currency.

BUT!! BUT!! They are assembled in the USA.
Just like cars. They assemble them here so not to pay an import tariff. Then all the profits go back that country.

It is not just hardware but programs/systems as well.
I have a friend who has now retired but ran a systems/programming house in the US.
He was a US citizen but his father was a high ranking officer in the Emporer's court who had fled to Tapei.
Once China opened up my friend ceased to be persona non gratis with invaluable connections.
Net result he had on his payroll at $200 a week some of the best systems/programmers from Beijing University.
He could bid for contracts in the US at 70% of the going rate making huge profits not having to pay $1000 a week.
Retired 5 years later with about $10m in his pocket.
I would guess the big software venders are now doing the same thing, the games manufacturers are doing the same employing staff in the Eastern European countries.

Thanks, besb. Thanks for sharing that. Wow! That's a lot of mula in a short period of time!

This is what I'm speaking of. $200 verses $1,000. Where's the level playing field? It's no more when people are willing to work for that. I understand they have to to survive, but it's more like they don't really have a choice. Also, in their economy, does this even pay the rent?

I need to clear $3,500 USD a month here to live what I consider a somewhat comfortable living. I am mortgage free with some toys.
