    Deceptive download sites

I posted that already on the sevenforums. But for those of you who do not visit there, this may be useful information.

There is a good article by Anand (HappyAndyK), the owner of the Windows Club, that describes which download sites to avoid and which ones to favor. I think it is worth reading and I like to share it with you.

Softpedia and MajorGeeks have always been my go to sites although still have to use the custom install to make sure unwanted crapware is not installed.

Best to find the original software publisher's site if there is one.

The owner of Softpedia is very responsive to criticism. I messaged the site once to express my dismay that his excellent site, that I recommended to everyone, had some hijack pup's in one his downloads. He thanked me for my compliment and then pointed me to a warning on the programs' page that clearly displayed there was other stuff offered with it it, that I'd missed. Softpedia and Filehippo were my goto download sites but it looks like I'll give Filehippo a miss now ...shame really.
