    Computer certification

Hey everyone. Well I think it's time to redo my computer certification's been 2005 since the last time I took my cert test's. I just bought the CompTIA A+ Book to study and when I'm ready to take the test I'll buy a test ticket and retake the test to refresh my knowledge on computer repair. Has anyone taken the A+ test recently and how hard is it? Been forever since I've taken a exam.

I took them a couple years back & looking at my paperwork, A+ IT Tech Designation, the passing score was 700, A+ Essentials the passing score was 675. Others I took, Security + passing score was 764, Network + passing score was 554.

One thing you should be aware of, starting at the end of 2012 I believe, the certification is now only valid for 3 years, after that you have to take the test again. You may want to just hold on to your certification since it's designated as a lifetime cert & just reacquaint yourself with the materials in the newer books. I can see their point, to make sure their cert holders are up to date, however paying for a test every 3 years is kind of expensive for most folks. I just choose to stay updated on my own accord with the latest changes in tech.

The tests can be expensive (mine were listed at $250), however here is a good tip. If you are enrolled in a college that is a testing site, you should get it for 1/2 price. If you are not enrolled in a college, find one in the area & take an online course (such as A+ training). Since you are now technically a student at that college, you should be able to score the 1/2 price on the test.

BTW, being that I live out in the boonies, I had to take an online course at a college 1 1/2 hours away, then drive there to take the test. Yeppers, that was the closest testing area for me.
