I buy pre built PC's. Mainly because I don't have the money or expereice to build my own. However, I cannot say I wouldn't prefer custom building one, as I never have.

If you ever want to save money and get better performing/matched hardware, find a friend to help you or get it done locally.

Who doesn't want to save money?

So when that person wants to do an upgrade, do they cut through the cardboard or make a sticky mess by peeling off the duct-tape?

Building a PC from 'scratch' is not hard at all and the parts I got would've cost me twice as much had it been pre-built by someone else; the only caveat is to do thorough homework (research) before one purchases the first part. Below is the first ever PC I've built, the one I'm using now; definitely not the last, an i7 rig is in the works.

My previous gaming rig (Core 2 Duo-based) was a completely custom build, starting from this old hunk of junk, 90s full-tower case...

Transformed into this build with a lot of modding, fabricating, painting, etc...

    386DX was my only frefab.

    Building my own ever since.

Making them powerful but very quiet is my goal.
    Can be quite challenging.

    I hate noisy computers.
