Photoshop 8 - Merging Pics

Hi. I am trying to create a desktop background with Photoshop 8 with a screen size (1920 x 1080 res) of a hubble deep field image and a little collage of 4 x family pics in the centre (strip). But I cannot see how to 'slide' the collage strip across and centre on the hubble field image? I have had a look at PS help, its gobblydegook to me.

OR does anyone know of a DUMMY EASY freebie around that does it for me ????

You could try LAYERS and then merge the two layers.

I did see that but could not understand instruction. Sorry, its new to me, I'll have another go

Ok , first create a new blank image with the resolution you want (1920 x 1080)

The fast and dirty way I do this is

1. open each image you want merged into the one new one in Photoshop.
2. select what I want to be in each part of the picture , copy it and then paste into the new image.
3. Move the items around into the correct space , with the layers that get created , the ones at the top of the list are pasted over the top of the ones underneath , so paste the 'background' ones first , though you can move them up and down in the layers list afterwards , it's just easier.

When I'm happy with the image created I save it as a PSD file under a different name (just in case) then goto the Layers menu and choose 'Flatten Image' , this is the final picture...then just save it as the final image name and then it can be used as a desktop image.

1. Open each picture separately in Photoshop
2. Get the background as your Hubble Pics at the right resolution.
3. Working in the other picture, resize it to the general size you want.
4. Click and hold on the layer in the other picture and drag it to the Hubble Picture
5. it will automatically create a new layer in the Hubble picture.
6. Move the picture around until you have it where you want.

If it isn't the exact size you wanted, you can also use the transform function in Photoshop to play with one layer at time.
