Those who are, for one reason or another, still unwilling or unable to upgrade from the now officially end-of-life (EOL) Windows XP operating system may have a reprieve, following the publication of a hack that enables continued security updates for the platform.

[UPDATE:] Late Monday we received a statement from a Microsoft spokesperson:

We recently became aware of a hack that purportedly aims to provide security updates to Windows XP customers. The security updates that could be installed are intended for Windows Embedded and Windows Server 2003 customers and do not fully protect Windows XP customers. Windows XP customers also run a significant risk of functionality issues with their machines if they install these updates, as they are not tested against Windows XP. The best way for Windows XP customers to protect their systems is to upgrade to a more modern operating system, like Windows 7 or Windows 8.1.

My analogy, using the ones on the link you posted Brink, cars made in the 1920s and 1930s do run fine, they just have to be maintained. Lots of people do maintain old cars, even make parts for them.

My opinion about Win 8 ? Well, I prefer Win98SE or Win XP. Microspft does patch, but they prefer you buy a new operating system, and not get free patches. That is what it is really about.

Only reason I bought a Win 8 laptop, was I needed it to run programs on Flora, Gemma, and Trinket microcontrollers. Vista wouldn't load the drivers for those devices. For me, Win 8 serves no other purpose. I would really prefer my Amiga A3000 over all other computers I have ever used, which includes a Crap YMP-2 I was console operator on back in the 1990s.

Cray... was misspelled above.
