I don't have a preference. I run 8.1 Pro on my desktop and 7 on my laptop and both computers do all I need them to do.

I agree with LittleJay and have both running. I like them both and don't feel there is any need to have yet another thread trying to argue the differences, it will only turn into a sniping match.

I think both are fine: I have 8 running on a new workstation and an old 2009 laptop just fine, and then there is 7 running on a re-purposed 2007 Mac Mini. All fine there too. Windows 8 seems faster and takes up a lot less HDD space than 7.

Well, I know Windows 8, so I'll probably end up buying that. Is there any real difference between Pro version and Standard version of Windows 8?

It is really a matter of personal preference. On the desktops I prefer Windows 7 but on my tablet, 8.1 is great.

In my opinion, Windows 8 is far superior. Of course, this is only because of some of the minor improvements distributed among the system, and I have the Windows 7 "Aero" look going for me as well. If you want it, its available on Glass8. (I've used it for a month or so actually.)

Windows 8.1 Pro is better with virtualization (as it is built in to the system) and some other programs that some jobs might require sometime in the future. Remote desktop access is a plus, too. :D

I understand where you are coming from, the environment takes a lot from Windows Phone, but it isn't a 'crapware' filled OS, as you may be referring to the interface. Maybe some tweaks can be made such as reapplying Aero, as I wrote earlier on another topic, Aero8. Also you can download start menu replacements such as Start8.

:thumb: :geek: I hope you find these useful. Windows 8.1 has lots to offer.
